Just because you are a mom does not mean you have to stop caring for what you wear. When you are a mom you do need more functional clothes though. Here are some of my favorite fashion finds for when you want to look cute and pulled together even when you are running after a toddler or carpooling a pre-teen.
Leggings
The staple of mom style is the legging. I think sometimes they get a bad rap but really they are amazing for chasing kids while looking cute. One of my favorite brands is Zella, Nordstrom’s brand. They have a high waist (my #1 requirement) and thick so my underwear will not show through. They are sometimes a little too thick in the summer but are definitely worth the money to splurge on. Z by Zella is the Nordstrom Rack version and I think they are just as good. The styles and colors are more limited but they are significantly less expensive while having the same features.
My other favorite are Mono B leggings. A little more obscure but these leggings pass my first two tests: they have a high waist and are thick enough not to show too much. They also feature four way stretch and some amazing wicking technology. The patterns range from shimmery with exclusive sparkle thread to really cool moto ribbed black leggings.
Joggers
If leggings had a fraternal twin sister they would be the jogger. They are the same in comfort and cute, but different in looks. Yes, I have twins so this reference probably makes more sense to me then the average mom but I think it works. One of my favorite brands is 143Story. They are super soft and come in some amazing patterns.
Mono B also has some amazing joggers including some terry pairs! The ultimate in coziness. This pair also has a cool asymetrical striped pattern. The brand’s joggers are also very affordable at around $30.
Tops
I pretty much live in tee shirts so I’m always looking for the cutest ones around. Hopely has some of my favorites because they are loose and flowy and of course who doesn’t like a little tie dye.
When It is a little colder (I live in Chicagoland so it could snow 9 months out of the year) I love a cute pullover. This star top and fun yellow top are two of my favorites.
I also love a good deal and hate spending a ton on clothes that might get ruined by throw up or bike grease. Jane has some amazing deals and quality tops. Sign up for their emails to get alerted to new inventory and big discounts!
Shoes
For my everyday shoes I pretty much alternate between Keds, Toms and cute Birkenstocks. They are functional and do the work of being a mom. Kate Spade has a fun collection for Keds which is one of my go tos!
When I need something (a little bit) fancier I still go to Toms. I have fun flats and also heels that are actually stable. When you run after a bunch of little kids I still need something that isn’t going to make my feet tired or worse roll an ankle.
A Little Bit Of Everything
I love Stitch Fix. I never tried it until I had kids and decided they were terrible to try to shop with. I once went dress shopping for a wedding with my son who was a month or two old. It was terrible. It took forever with all the breaks for feeding, diapers and general baby cuddling and it really wasn’t fun.
So I tried Stitch Fix and realized how fun it could be to shop in my house. You can try it once or set up a regular subscription. You pay a $20 styling fee that is credited towards any items you buy. You receive five items in your size to try on and return or keep. The great part it is very personalized to your style, budget and sizes. They also have sizes from XS to 3X, maternity and petite. Grab $25 off your first order with this link.
Outerwear
Yes the “Amazon Jacket” is so 2017 but I still wear mine. IDGAF The pockets are amazing for holding extra gloves, a wallet, first aid kit and maybe some cool rocks you pick up along the way plus it is warm and stylish. They have also come out with some fun new colors.
Like most moms I also love a good hoodie. My requirements are big pockets and a cozy feel. I love a good neutral and this zip-up fits all my requirements and is super versatile.
Those are my picks, what are yours? Tell me in the comments what some of your go to’s are!

Hi Laura,
These are some great picks. I tried out stitch fix because I wanted to get out of my frumpy lazy mom look. I like it, some boxes I keep a lot of the items and some boxes I end up keeping only one. But it is nice to see options I never would have picked for myself but end up loving. You have a lot of amazing picks I am going to have to try. I did not know Toms had boots/heels, those look so cute. And I love the look of that hoodie, comfy but still cute. Thanks for sharing!
